"US forces just eliminated – I'm not sure if you saw – they have a major complex, where the vessels originate. Recently, we knocked that out. So we hit them with significant force," Trump reportedly informed Republican donor and businessman John Catsimatidis in a recent interview.

If a US military action were to be confirmed, it would constitute the first ground target hit since the Pentagon initiated a buildup of American military presence in the region to disrupt drug traffickers that the Trump administration alleges operate under the orders of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.
